This last issue of 1998, reflects the broad range of initiatives currently being taken with men. We have a very interesting piece by Mark Rivett and Colin Heyman reflecting on some of the practice issues and conflict in working with men who abuse. This piece hints at the growing body of work with men who abuse that now exists nationally, and we will, in a future issue of WWM, review this in much more detail. Sticking to a similar theme, we describe a schools-based project in Liverpool that has been developing work with young people about their attitudes to violence. While this is not a project specifically targeting at young men, we are keen to open this area up for further discussion, and believe this piece of work is a good starter. We have an extract from Alan Richardson's review of work with fathers in the North East of England, which again reflects a growing body of experience, certainly enough to identify both strengths and weaknesses. We have also extracted sections from Anna Aguma and Tim Smiths' research report on the needs of Tameside young men, which indicates the value of local research and investigations as a catalyst for further action The last major article of this issue is by Sam Sprigge describing work he has been developing with young men and pornography, which is an issue we would like to return to and would welcome contact with practitioners wanting to contribute to this debate. Also included in this issue, are two questionnaires for you to complete. The first is a 'readers' questionnaire', to give your views of what you find useful and what you would like to see in the pages of WWM. We have always (since our inception in 1990), been a journal for practitioners and those interested in the development of practice with men. But within that, on occasions, we have included reviews, theory-based articles and details of media coverage, but what would you find useful? Does the increase in interest of work with men mean that our role should change? Let us know. The other questionnaire is to gauge your interest in a resource / research project, please read and reply if you are interested. Finally, this is the last issue of the year, which means that everybody will need to re-subscribe. To ensure that you receive all four issues next year, do it now.
